ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration studies show passenger cars equipped with ESC experience 35% fewer single-vehicle crashes and 30%
fewer single-vehicle fatalities.
Reduces unintended understeer (plowing), Sensors measure differences between a driver's intended path and when
the actual turn is less than intended. Braking force is then applied to the inside rear wheel to correct the vehicle's
understeer.
Reduces unintended oversteer (fishtailing). Sensors measure differences between a driver's intended path and when
the actual turn is more than intended. Braking force is then applied to the outside front wheel to correct the
vehicle's oversteer.
ESC cannot compensate for severe driver error.
ESC includes Traction Control System (TCS) which greatly reduces the chance of wheelspin during acceleration.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)
Help maintain vehicle steering
control while braking under slippery road conditions (e.g., ice, snow, rain) and during emergency braking situations
under road conditions.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Includes Electronic Brake-force
Distribution (EBD). Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) optimizes braking performance by altering the amount
or rear-brake pressure based on vehicle load. When the vehicle is lightly loaded, the rear-brake pressure is reduced
to help prevent wheel lockup. Rear-brake pressure is increased when a load is added to the vehicle.
- 4-sensor, 4-channel system
- 4-wheel disc brakes

AUTOMATIC SEAT PRETENSIONERS
- Sonata's front seatbelt pretensioners tighten
the driver's and front passenger's shoulder belts during a frontal impact crash. This reduces the occupants' forward
movement and helps position them for the optimal effectiveness of the airbags. Front seatbelt pretensioners automatically
"cinch up" to reduce slack and help to optimally position the occupant in case of airbag deployment.
Force limiters are designed to "give" a little, to help reduce peak belt loads to the occupant's torso
in certain high-impact frontal collisions.

AIRBAGS**
- 2 advanced front airbags.
The advanced front airbag system automatically determines if and with what level of power the driver and/or the
passenger front airbags will inflate, based on occupant weight and height as well as impact.
- 2 front seat-mounted side-impact airbags
- 2 roof-mounted side-curtain airbags for front and outboard rear passengers
**Safety belts should always be worn.

ACTIVE FRONT HEAD RESTRAINTS
- Active front head restraints offer extra protection
against whiplash in rear-end collisions
- Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) child-seat tether anchors. LATCH helps simplify the proper installation
of compatible child-restraint seats. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates suggest that
befor LATCH was mandated, up to 80% of all child-restraint seats were improperly installed.
- 3-point seatbelts for all seating positions
- Automatic seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters.
- Shingle-style, low-profile rear-seat head restraints for improved visibility.
